Our Mission Statement

To advocate, enhance and promote excellence in the practice of periodontics in California by serving its members and assisting them in their responsibilities to the public.

We work toward our Mission Statement by:

• Advocating and promoting excellence in periodontics and dentistry.
• Promote oral health by working with dental organizations (California Dental Association, the American Academy of Periodontology, etc.) to improve oral health.
• Promote evidence-based dental care through providing the public information regarding products, techniques and devices that claim to treat periodontal diseases in our Consumer Advocate section of our CSP web site.
• Our members volunteers here and abroad to improve dental heathcare.
• Promote safety in the use of dental sedation. Dr. Robert Merin was on Blue Ribbon Panel on Sedation that recommended many of the new legislative changes to insure public safety in cases where dental sedation is used.
• Promote consumer rights to insurance benefits. Dr. John Ducar has worked as our CSP insurance advocate and assisted the AAP in negotiating with insurance carriers in maintaining coverage for periodontal care. This role is now the responsibility of Dr. Allan Charles.
• CSP to provide its members with continuing education courses on medical emergencies and cutting-edge techniques for the periodontal disease management and dental implants.
  
  
  
  Medical emergencies management courses are provided regularly to insure that your dental staff are well trained.
  
  
  
  Cutting edge courses are given by international experts on periodontal pathogenesis, non-surgical management, periodontal plastic surgery, and dental implants.
• Encourage a future generation of professional and socially conscientious periodontal practitioners by working with academic training programs and recognizing excellence in leadership and research.
  
  
  
  Past CSP award winners with presenters. CSP has worked with UCSF, USC, UCLA, VA GLAHS, & Loma Linda in encouraging professionalism, ethics, research interest, and leadership in our future professionals.
• Promote oral health by working with dental organizations (Dental Board of California, California Dental Association, the American Academy of Periodontology, etc.) to improve oral health.
• CSP President Kit Neacy was a past president of the Dental Board of California.
• Members such as Richard Benveniste, John Ducar and Lisa Harpenau have served the Dental Board of California.
• Eugene Rathbun, Steven Detsch, and Rich Kao chaired the CDA Council on Dental Research & Development, which monitors and defines CDA policies on various practice regulations set forth by CalOSHA, DBA, and other regulatory agencies.
• Steve Schonfeld chaired the CDA Council on Education & Professional Relations, which monitored the Dental Board of California.
• Promote evidence-based dental care through providing the public information regarding products, techniques and devices that claim to treat periodontal disease in our Consumer Advocate section of our CSP web site.
